Five times each year, Our Town America randomly selects a winner from the thousands of new movers who take time out of their busy schedules to provide feedback on their moving experience by completing our New Mover Survey. This year, Tampa’s very own David and Wendalyn Cooper were selected as the first winner of our 2014 Quarterly New Mover Survey Contest, resulting in their recent prize of a $250 prepaid gift card from Our Town America. Americans Under High Stress When it Comes to Moving

WMBF News (July 2014) – It’s not news that the summer is the most popular time to move, according to a survey by Our Town America. But here are some things that may surprise you: When asked what are the most stressful moments of a move, people worry about how they’re going to get the couch through the door and find that they are constantly needing more tape. More than 70 percent of respondents say the top payment for a friend to help them move is pizza and 54 percent say a six-pack-of-beer. According to the survey, pizza and beer reigns over cash when it comes to moving. Almost half of respondents say moving is one of the worst favors a friend can ask them. In today’s world, a move to a new home may damage more than your personal belongings. A new, national survey reveals moving also scars personal relationships as couples fight over why they moved and where they moved while struggling with money problems and decreased intimacy. And talk about relationship revenge in a move. Nearly 1 in 3 survey respondents admitted to “accidentally losing” a significant other’s prized possession or purposefully tossing it in the Goodwill bag. The survey was just released for May’s National Moving Month, the start of the busiest moving time of the year. More than 40 million Americans are expected to relocate this year and most will make their move during summer months when the weather is favorable and kids are out of school.
